In the 4th generation, the SUB60 chassis is a rivetless design, built to withstand the continual vibration of serving on top of a hard-working 4wd. Always 225cm long! Only ever fitted with polycotton canvas (including the fly), never polyester-based canvas!
 
At 225cm long our XpeditioNZ SUB60 is right-sized for Kiwi guys.
Our 225cm SUB60 has a 217cm long mattress. After deducting the unusable portion at the foot end of all clamshell designs, typical height Kiwis are accommodated comfortably in our SUB60 and can lie down straight in the tent. This isn't possible with shorter-length imitations of the original chassis the SUB60 is built with.
 
SUB 60 Features
 
Under 60 seconds full setup time. It's why we named it the SUB 60... nothing is faster!
 
Only premium materials and construction. The entire shell is constructed from aluminum. The bottom shell is a solid honeycomb construction. If you look under some cheaper hard shell roof tents you'll see slats and fabric - not ideal. All fittings on the SUB 60's tent body, including the gas struts, are made from stainless steel, which naturally resists rusting and is impervious to NZ's strong UV. A high-quality ladder connects securely to stainless steel fittings on the tent.
 
Comfortable 60mm memory foam mattress. We wouldn't sleep on a 40 to 50mm mattress and neither should you! Whilst people will always have different ideas about how firm or soft a mattress should be, we believe the SUB60's mattress strikes the right balance and is also suited to side sleepers. An anti-condensation mat is provided beneath the mattress.
 
Premium (real!) canvas - no polyester anywhere! Beware that some brands use 'canvas' to describe fabrics made from plastic/polyester/oxford, sometimes under a fancy-sounding fabric name. Only real polycotton will last and perform in a tent like this. Even the fly on the SUB60 is a real polycotton canvas, not polyester.
 
Choose from three canvas colour schemes, including 'blackout canvas' options for a small premium. Blackout is great for those who know they want it, but it's not for everyone. If you want natural light to gently filter into the tent (ideal when you're at camp early and want to read/watch up in the tent) choose the Sand colour canvas.
 
The canvas is secured to the shell by way of a high-quality marine grade zipper, and can be removed should any repairs be needed.
 
Ultra slim design. When closed the SUB 60 is only 16cm tall! It slices the air like a knife. This is much more friendly on your aerodynamics, fuel bills, and touring range. A significant cost saving over time. However, you'll only leave a sleeping bag inside. Pillows and a ladder will be stored in the vehicle (the ladder could be stored on a roof rack).
 
Roof load compatible. See our load bar kits and platform racks. Our load bar kits are next-generation compared to others and come with a set of 4 M8 eyes that slide down tracks on the load bars to where you need them. The platform racks can do the same, on any of the planks.
 
The outer perimeter of the tent features a clever track system that can be used to mount any accessories. We stock compatible brackets for fitting an awning directly to the tent body. LED lighting and any other accessories can also be easily mounted, as can an extra set of ladder mounts, available separately.
 
Internal lighting. A 1-meter LED light strip, with a soft-touch switch and USB plug to fit any power bank, is included with every SUB 60 tent. Adverse weather ready. Nothing performs in adverse weather like our clamshell design hard shell tents! In severe storm conditions, simply turn your vehicle in the direction the rain/hail and wind is coming from. The SUB60's aluminum shell will easily withstand it. The SUB60 has been tested in very high winds and has performed to exceptional standards. In extreme winds the fly on the SUB 60 can be unzipped, rolled up, and stored at the top in need, where it cannot flap and the risk of damage occurring is greatly minimised. This will be one of the last tents standing in extreme weather conditions.

N.B. The roof panel exterior of your SUB60 will be light grey, to maintain a cooler touch under hot sun. Regarding photos that show SUB60's with our branding on the roof - these are our display models. If you want to receive a tent with that logo installed, you will have to contact us.
 
About Size Options
Choose from 128cm wide (regular), or 143cm wide (large) models. 
For cars up to wagons and small/medium AWDs like Subaru Outback/Rav4 etc, we recommend the regular size. 
For 100/200 Series Landcruiser and Nissan Patrol etc the large size is ideal, though some may still prefer the regular size. 
For vehicles like Pajero/Prado/Hilux/Ranger, either regular or large sizes are suitable.  Feel free to contact us to discuss your situation.

All Sub 60 tents are 225cm long, allowing ample internal length, even for taller guys.  (For extra tall individuals take a look at the Stealth).
 
About Canvas Colour Options
Choose from black canvas with white trim, grey canvas with black trim, or sand canvas with black trim.
Our black and grey canvas options are 'blackout' canvas.  These are a near-total light-blocking canvas.  Ideal for those who like to sleep in without being woken too early by the sun.
Our sand canvas is not blackout and will appeal to those who prefer natural light to filter through the canvas.
 
Extra ladder mount brackets
An extra pair of ladder mount brackets allow you to pick a second entrance that you will use to enter the tent.  You might for instance ordinarily use a side door, but in heavy rain prefer to use the main door with its rain fly.  See accessories.
 
Roof Bars
Custom roof bars are available for these tents in both sizes.  The tents can carry up to 30kg on top, whilst still being able to open. 
 
Awning and awning brackets
We have available special awning brackets that mount directly to the unique extrusion on the side of the Sub 60.  These brackets are available separately and can be used with our XpeditioNZ awning, or our EEZI-AWN awnings, or most other brands.
